Christmas Eve Party Time!

A great evening was had by everyone celebrating Christmas Eve at the club. Everyone was in great spirits and we danced, sang along to Christmas tunes and sported our amazing array of Christmas jumpers! There was a good wee spread of nibbles and the festive cheer was flowing along with a fun quiz, congratulations to Team Brodie!
We also had a fab wee 80th birthday celebration for Elspeth Campbell, with Eammon Andrews (aka Peter Mucha) reprising his ‘This is your life’ which she loved along with all her family and friends.

Carpet Bowlers Christmas Party

The ‘Monday Carpet Bowlers‘ held their final afternoon of carpet bowls for 2022 and celebrated what has been a well supported and highly enjoyable few months.  A lovely buffet was enjoyed, and to add to the afternoon was the chance to wish ‘happy birthdays’ to Margaret and David Good and Deryck Deane.
The carpets will start up again in the new year, and as always, new players are most welcome.

Return of the ‘Black Bottle’

It was great to get back to some carpet bowling and especially the return of the ‘Black Bottle‘ competition.
A massive thank you to all who helped out to get this competition back up and running again (we haven’t played the Black Bottle since 2019). The 2022/23 winners are Willie Donaldson & Ronnie MacKenzie with Mary Carle & Alan Carle as runners-up.  We very much look forward to running this competition in 2023 and hoping more clubs will participate.

Quiz Night success!

The club held a Quiz Night on Saturday 26th November.  A great night was had by all with some ‘brains’ being well challenged!!  The winners were ‘Silver Wing’ aka Mary and Allan Carle and Eileen and Gordon Robertson – well done! Runners up were Denise and Steve Saunders and Mags and Jim Stevenson. A big thanks goes out to ‘Quiz Master’ Gareth Findlay, ably assisted by Diana, Harry and Lewis.  A great buffet was supplied by the Carle’s and Robertson’s with Chloe providing a lovely quiche! It’s hoped to have another quiz night soon, so please come along and enjoy a night to remember.

Winners: Mary and Allan and Eileen and Gordon
Runners up: Jim, Steve, Mags and Denise
Presentation of Trophies Evening

The club held their annual Presentation of Trophies Evening on Saturday 12th November.  There was a great turnout of approximately 65 members to congratulate their fellow bowlers in what has been a very successful season.  Everyone enjoyed a superb buffet, provided by Jane Duncan and music provided by ‘disco’ Kenny.  It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves after what has been a couple of years of turmoil and frustration.  Another bonus was how well our junior section has increased this year. Lets hope we can now take the club forward again into 2023.

‘Viva La France’

On Tuesday, 25th October, we welcomed a group of French youngsters.  The youngsters were over here to enhance their English and  as an additional interest they wanted to try our popular carpet bowls. Margaret and David Good took them under their wings and everyone had a great time.  Perhaps next time they can teach us boules!

Closing of the Green

On Sunday the 25th September we played our final game of the season to celebrate a season where some ‘normality’ was once again returned to after the past 2 years of disruption.  There was a good turn out of members to play in the traditional ‘Secretary v Treasurer’  with the Secretary winning once again!  Everyone enjoyed the afternoon, albeit it a bit windy and chilly at times, and look forward to starting again in April 2023.  President Willie Donaldson thanked everyone for their support to him and the club through the year and officially closed the green.

Monday Afternoon Rinks success

Congratulations to Sheila Knoll, winner of the Monday Afternoon Rinks and Margaret Good and Peter Mucha who were joint runners-up.
